Church Covenant
Having been led as we believe by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptised in water, in obedience to the commands of our Lord Jesus Christ, we do now in the presence of God and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
We commit, as part of this local church, to continue the work of the Lord according to the Great Commission given in the Gospels and Acts, to spread the Gospel to every person.
We commit to be involved and support this local church and its desire to glorify God in prayer, worship, song, service, giving, edification and in corrective discipline of ourselves and others according to God’s Word.
We commit as representatives of our Holy Saviour, to live our lives as true believers, in accordance with God’s Word, endeavouring to live holy and separated unto the Lord. That we would be students of God’s Word and apply those learned truths to our lives. That we would display the fruit of the Spirit’s working in our lives, by our actions toward others in the Church and in the community; including attitudes of compassion, grace, mercy, love, and kindness. That we would be slow to take offence, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rule of our Saviour to secure reconciliation without delay. That we would walk circumspectly in this world.
We commit to serve God faithfully in this local church. We engage to strive for the advancement of this church in grace, knowledge, and holiness; to promote spiritual growth; to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace; to sustain its worship, ordinances, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and liberally to the financial support of the ministries of the church, to the ministries of world evangelism, and for the care of the needy.
In short that we would be Ambassadors of Christ, defending the faith once delivered to the saints until Jesus returns.
Doctrinal Statement
A. Holy Bible
We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the infallible Word of God, verbally inspired by the Holy Spirit and therefore without error. We accept the Scriptures as being the sole authority in matters relating to the faith and life of believers. The translation to be used in any church ministry is to be the King James Version (AV) or a sound translation, translated by godly men based entirely on the Masoretic Text of the Old Testament, and the Received Text of the New Testament and being consistent with the AV. II Tim. 3:16; II Pe. 1:19-21
B. God
We believe in the triune God of the Bible as Scripture states: “These three are one” (I Jn. 5:7). We believe there is one God, eternally existing in three co-equal persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each having the same attributes and perfections. Gen. 1:1-2, 26; 11:7; Deut. 6:4; Isa. 9:6; Matt. 3:16-17; 28:19-20; Jn. 1:1; Acts 5:3-4; Rom. 8:9; I Tim. 3:16; I Pe. 1:2; I Jn. 5:7; II Cor. 13:14
C. God the Father
We believe that God the Father exists as the first Person of the triune essence of God; the originator of both creation and Scripture; and the source of every good and righteous thing.
Matt. 3:16-17; Jn. 3:16; I Pe. 1:2; Heb. 1:1-3; Ja. 1:17
We believe God the Father is the Father of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Father spiritually to all who receive Jesus Christ as Saviour, Who designed and directed the redemption provided by Christ on the cross. Jn. 1:12-13; Acts 2:36; 17:24-29; Eph. 1:3-6; I Pe. 1:3
D. The Son
We believe that Jesus Christ is equal in essence with the Father and the Holy Spirit and has neither beginning nor end. Jn. 1:1-2; 10:30; 14:9-11; Col. 1:13-17; Heb. 1:8; 13:8; II Pe. 1:1
We believe that with the incarnation through the supernatural conception by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the virgin Mary, Jesus Christ possesses a human (without sin) and divine nature in one Person, being perfect Man and perfect God, united in such a way that they may not be separated nor confused. Even while on earth He was God. Matt. 1:18-25; 16:13-16; Lk. 1:28-35; Jn. 1:14; 3:34; 4:32-34; 5:30; 8:5,8,46; Rom. 1:2-5; Phil. 2:5-11; I Tim. 2:5; Heb. 4:15; I Pe. 1:19
We believe that Jesus Christ lived a perfect life, fulfilled the Law, died a substitutionary death for all men, rose bodily from the grave on the third day, and ascended bodily into Heaven where He is now interceding for believers. Isa. 52:13-53:12; Matt. 5:17; Mk. 10:45; Lk. 24; Acts 1:9-11; Heb. 4:14-15; I Pe. 3:22
E. The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is co-equal and co-existent with God the Father and God the Son. He is of the same essence as part of the triune God and possesses the attributes of God including personality. Ps. 139:7; Matt. 28:19; Lu. 1:35; Jn. 16:8; Acts 5:3-4; I Cor. 2:10; 3:16; II Cor. 13:14; Eph. 4:30; Titus 3:5
We believe His work is to:
Bring conviction through the Word - Acts 2:37; Jn. 16:7-11
Bring repentance - Rom. 2:4
Accomplish regeneration/salvation - Titus 3:5
Seal unto eternal life - Eph. 4:30
Indwell the believer - Rom. 8:9-11
Give assurance to the believer - Rom. 8:16-17
Teach us through the Word - Jn. 14:26
To fill the believer with Himself - Eph. 5:18
F. Creation
We believe in the Genesis record of a literal six-day creation of all things by God through His Word. We do not accept any form of evolutionary theory. Gen. 1:2; Ex. 20:11; Heb. 11:3
G. Man
We believe that man was created in God's image on the sixth solar day of creation. God breathed the breath of life into him, and he became a living soul (tripartite being with body, spirit, and soul). We believe that the soul is indestructible and in the resurrection of the body and in the continual consciousness of the soul after death. Gen. 2:7; I Thes. 5:23; Heb. 4:12; Lk. 16:19-31; Jn. 11:25-26; Rev. 20:10
H. Sin Nature
Each member of the human race is fallen, sinful, lost; and the new birth by the Holy Spirit is absolutely necessary and essential for salvation. Gen. 3:1-24; Rom. 3:10, 23; 5:12; 8:9; Titus 3:5; Jn. 3:3-7
I. Salvation
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ provided salvation for all mankind through His death, burial, and resurrection. We believe that salvation is by grace through faith, by the finished work of Christ, a free gift of God wholly apart from the deeds of the flesh, involving repentance and personal faith in Jesus Christ on the part of the sinner. We reject as unbiblical the notions of “easy-believe-ism,” Calvinism, and the possibility of losing one’s salvation. I Jn. 2:1-2; Eph. 2:8-9; Acts 16:30-31; II Tim. 1:9; Acts 20:21; Lk. 13:3; Rom. 11:6; Titus 3:5
J. Eternal Security
We believe in the eternal security of the believer, that it is impossible for one born into the family of God ever to be lost. Jn. 1:12; Jn. 10:27-29; Rom. 8:28-39; Phil. 1:6; I Jn. 5:10-13
K. The Church
We believe:
The church is an assembly of born-again, baptized believers, united in organization to practice New Testament ordinances, to meet together for worship, prayer, fellowship, teaching, and a united testimony, and to actively engage in carrying out the Great Commission. Matt. 16:18;
Acts 2:41-47; 13:1-3; 15:4; 16:5; I Cor. 11:2; Heb. 10:25; I Cor 4:2; Matt. 25:23; Luke 19:17; Luke 16:10
Every believer should assemble and identify themselves with a local church, which represents the body of Christ on earth. Acts 2:36; Col. 1:18; I Cor. 12:13, 27; Heb. 10:25; I Tim. 3:15; Eph. 1:22-23; Rom. 16:16; I Cor. 12:27; Col. 3:11
That the local church is to be self-governing under the Lordship of Jesus Christ, self-supporting, and that no religious hierarchy has any Scriptural grounds to dictate and run the affairs of any local church. Acts 13:1-3; 15:22-23
That the church should be sound in faith, believing the Bible is to be interpreted in the literal, historical, and grammatical sense, where the Holy Spirit, our Teacher, illumines and aides in the study of the Bible. Jn. 5:39; 20:30-31; Acts 15:1-30; I Cor. 2:11; II Tim. 2:15; 3:14
That the local church is responsible before God for its testimony to the world. Therefore, if unsound views of doctrine or behaviour inconsistent with the name of Christ arises among the members or attendees of this local church, it is the responsibility of the pastor and people to follow the guidelines of Holy Scriptures of II Timothy 3:16, and when or where necessary, to follow the pattern of Matthew 18:15-18 on church discipline. Matt. 18:15-18; I Cor. 5:1-13; Acts 5:1-11
That we have no part with the ecumenical religious movements of our day. Because of the widespread apostasy, syncretism, and liberalism of member denominations of the Ecumenical councils of churches, we will not participate in combined church services, evangelistic rallies, conferences, or seminars which have ecumenical sponsorship or participants. We will studiously avoid involvement with any and all groups that are ecumenical or cultic in nature such as:
The Roman Catholic Church
Jehovah Witnesses
Seventh Day Adventists
Mormons
British Israelism
New Age groups, such as the Bahai’s
The Charismatic Movement - We believe that God imparts a spiritual gift to every Christian at conversion, and believing that the sign gifts (tongues, healing, miracles, interpretation of tongues) were temporary and believing that modern day charismatic claims, regarding the sign gifts are not substantiated by evidence, we hold that, though many Charismatics are born again, the Charismatic Movement is in error. Acts 15:25-29; Rom. 16:17; Titus 3:10-11; II Jn. 9-11; II Cor. 6:14-18; I Cor. 13:8-10
L. Contemporary Music
We believe that the Contemporary Christian Music Movement, also known as CCM, is dangerous not only for its worldly rhythms, but also because it is characterized by the use of unscriptural lyrics. We believe the use of CCM brings great and rapid change upon its entry into the church therefore this style of music will not be used in the church.
M. Two Ordinances of the Church
We believe the following ordinances were given to the local church: baptism and the Lord's Supper. These are not sacraments and have no ability to impart grace to the participants. Baptism is by immersion of believers only, thus portraying the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Lord's Supper is the partaking of the unleavened bread, and unfermented wine, (grape juice, pure blood of the grape) by the believer as a continuing memorial of the broken body and shed blood of Christ our Saviour, until He returns to claim His own. Matt. 3:13-17; Acts 8:36-38; Acts 2:41,47; Rom. 6:3-4; I Cor. 11:2, 23-26; Matt. 28:18-20; Lk. 22:19-20
N. Priesthood of Believers
We believe in the priesthood of all believers, thus assuring all saints of God equal standing before God, equal access to God, equality in the church, having no need of an earthly priest. The believer has the right and the responsibility to personally study and interpret the Scriptures in the light of the Scriptures, guided by the Holy Spirit. Heb. 4:14-16; I Tim. 2:5; II Tim. 2:15; Rev. 1:5-6; I Pe. 2:9
O. Godliness
We believe in the necessity of believers maintaining good works and purity of life and doctrine, not as a means of salvation in any sense, but as the proper evidence and fruit of salvation. Eph. 2:10; Rom. 12:1-2; Titus 3:8; I Pe. 1:13-17
P. Holiness/Separation
We believe that Christians are to be holy people. Therefore, we hold that it is the responsibility of every Christian to practice personal separation to Christ, and from sin. This holiness is to be inward, as well as outward, devotional, as well as exemplary. Knowing that our testimonies before others may contradict or complement our verbal witness for Christ, we are to exhort one another to be holy in word and deed. I Pe. 1:13-17; II Cor. 6:14-7:1
Q. Heaven, Hell, and the Lake of Fire
We believe in the existence of a literal Heaven, that it is the dwelling place of God and is the eternal abode of the redeemed. We believe in a literal Hell, that it is a temporary place of torment and that it is the reward for the lost who die in their sins. We believe in a literal Lake of Fire, that it will be a place of eternal judgment reserved for the Devil, and his angels, and all whose names are not written in the Lamb’s book of life and who are currently in Hell. Jn. 14:2-3; Rev. 21,22; Rev. 20:15; Lk. 16:22-25
R. Satan
We believe in the reality and personality of the Devil, Satan, who is the adversary of God, His Word and the believer. We believe he and the fallen angels are destined for eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire. I Pe. 5:8; Rev. 20:10; Ezek. 28:13-17; Isa. 14:12-15; Matt. 25:41
S. Doctrine of Last Things
We believe in the imminent return of Christ prior to the Tribulation and known as the Pre-Tribulation Rapture. I Thes. 4:13-18
We believe that the seventieth week (heptad) of Daniel’s prophecy is the yet-to-come seven-year Tribulation, followed by Christ’s physical return to the earth and sets up His kingdom which is the one thousand year Millennium. Dan. 9:24-27; Rev. 4-19; 20:1-6
We believe that Christ will judge all mankind, the saved at the Judgement Seat of Christ and the lost at the Great White Throne Judgement. I Cor. 3:11-15; Rev. 20:12-15; Heb. 9:28
We believe that the Lord will raise all mankind, some to the resurrection of life and some to the resurrection of damnation. Jn. 5:28-29; Col. 3:20-21 Rev. 20:12-15
We deny as unscriptural the notions of a Mid-Tribulation, Pre-Wrath, Post-Tribulation, Post-Millennial, A-Millennial eschatological positions.
We believe that the righteous who die go immediately to be with Christ forever in heaven, and the lost who die go immediately to hell and will suffer in the Lake of Fire forever. Phil. 1:21; Lk. 16:22-23; II. Cor. 5:8; Mk. 9:43-48; Matt. 25:46
T. Marriage
We believe marriage is ordained of God and is between a biological male and a biological female. Marriage is a life-long heterosexual union (until death do you part), believing that only the death of one spouse ends the one flesh relationship. Same-sex relationships and de-facto relationships are unbiblical, and therefore are not condoned or recognized by this church. Gen. 1:27-28; 2:18-24; Matt. 19:4-8
U. Family
We believe in regard to the family that the Bible teaches:
There are two genders assigned by God at conception, male and female. Gen. 1:27
Marriage is between a biological male and a biological woman, and that Christians should marry Christians. Gen. 2:20-25; II Cor. 6:14
Husbands are to support their wives and families by being a diligent godly example, by being loving, kind, leading and nurturing just as Christ loved the church. Eph. 5:25
Wives are to support their husbands and families by being a diligent godly example, by being loving, kind, nurturing, and submissive to their husband. Eph. 5:24
Both husbands and wives are to promote godliness in their families by word and deed.
Prov. 31:10-31; Eph. 5:22-33
Children are to be taught to honour and obey their parents and raised to love and obey the Lord and His Word. Eph. 6:1-4
We believe that human life is precious in Gods eyes and that He alone is the giver of life.
Acts 17:24-25
Mankind’s life is precious and is not to be cut short by any forms of murder including suicide, abortion, euthanasia, or assisted dying. Ex. 20:13; Lk. 12:6-7; Ps. 139:13-14
